expectations

"The perception of value of anything obtained easily is significantly less"
I reached onto this after tempest that raged in my head. An incident triggered it.

Starting with the definition of Karma: Its the concept of 'action' you do which affects the cause and effect cycle. Any deed you do is controlled by your free will. You have the full freedom to do it or not to; in this way or that way. It is said that its these deeds that constantly shape our present and future.

If a person does any action, what does he/she expects against it? Broadly the expectations can be:
  1. Materialistic Expectation : Any material thing in return of the action.
  2. Sentimental Expectation : The expectation of Love; expectation of feeling of gratitude. Also the nominal expectation that the action should get noticed by or acknowledged by somebody. (may be for whom it might be done)
The Ideal expectation is null, it says "कर्म किये जा, फल की चिंता मत कर" i.e. keep dong what you are supposed to do, without thinking about the returns of your deeds.

Coming back to the experience I had, I said to myself that if I have done something for somebody, what should I expect? I neither expect anything materialistic, nor I expect thank you. But am I wrong if I am expecting my deed to be acknowledged by the one?
What might be the reason for such behavior?
My alter ego said, A probable reason might be that the value of the action done by you in others' perspective would not be as high as you see it. I said might be. Then he continued might be he/she unaware that u did something. I said might be, might be not. He also said that there are chances of being selfish. I said, well fewer.
Finally when I had a talk with experienced person, it cleared up my mind.
I was told, many a times it is  नेकी कर और कुंवे मे डाल.. also was told, the we all know philosophy, what have you brought that you will take with you? Separate yourself from the actions as well the results.

Talking pragmatically, You should have the guts to expect absolutely nothing; or speaking it loudly and clearly making all aware, demanding whatever you want, if need arises.
